CONDUCTING A SEARCH

You can search using using three different methods: by keyword, subject, or conducting an advanced search.

Basic Search

Logical Operators

You can use the words and, or and not when conducting a keyword search (or, and and not do not work in subject search).

and

The and operator says that matching records must include both terms on either side of the operator. For example, fun and games finds only those records in which the word fun and the word games both occur.

or

The or operator says that matching records must include one or the other or both of the terms on either side of the operator. For example, dreams or daydreams finds records that in which either the word dreams or the word daydreams or both occur.

not

The not operator says that matching records must include the term in front of the operator but must not include the term after it. For example, crime not murder finds all records in which the word crime occurs except the ones in which the word murder also occurs.
