Finding Information with JUNIOR EDITION K-12, KIDS' EDITION K-12 and STUDENT EDITION K-12The Clearwater Public Library and the Pinellas Public Library Cooperative offer Junior Edition K-12, Kids' Edition K-12 and Student Edition to registered library patrons as a way to search for information from sources such as dictionaries, encyclopedias, newspapers and magazines. ACCESSING THE DATABASESClick to access Junior Edition K-12, Kids' Edition K-12 and Student Edition K-12 At the next screen, enter your 14-digit library card number (if outside the library) and click PROCEED. The main page of the database will appear. CONDUCTING A SEARCHYou can search using using three different methods: by keyword, subject, or conducting an advanced search.
Logical Operators You can use the words and, or and not when conducting a keyword search (or, and and not do not work in subject search). and The and operator says that matching records must include both terms on either side of the operator. For example, fun and games finds only those records in which the word fun and the word games both occur. or The or operator says that matching records must include one or the other or both of the terms on either side of the operator. For example, dreams or daydreams finds records that in which either the word dreams or the word daydreams or both occur. not The not operator says that matching records must include the term in front of the operator but must not include the term after it. For example, crime not murder finds all records in which the word crime occurs except the ones in which the word murder also occurs. Here are the results of an example search:

DICTIONARYOne of the tools these databases provide is a dictionary, which you can access by clicking on the button to the left of any page:
When you click on the Dictionary link, a small window will open up where you can type in a word to look up; then you will get a list of words and their definitions. TOOLBOXAnother useful feature of these databases is the Toolbox, which provides information on how to, for example, cite sources and information on writing a school paper.
