Finding Information with KIDS INFOBITSThe Clearwater Public Library and the Pinellas Public Library Cooperative offer Kids Infobits to registered library patrons as a way to search for information from specifically geared towards children. ACCESSING KIDS INFOBITSClick here to access Kids Infobits At the next screen, enter your 14-digit library card number (if outside the library) and click PROCEED. The main page of the will appear. You can click on one of the specific resources shown or enter a search term.
SEARCHINGThere are two ways to conduct a search in the database. You can simply enter a term and then press the Search button, or you can click on the Advanced Search button for more options:
Using this option will help you narrow down your search if you are looking for something very specific. When you conduct a search, your results will be displayed like this:
Clicking on the View button will then give you a list of articles and their sources:
At the top of the results page you will see tabs that give you the option of accessing different types of materials, though depending on your search, not each one of them will always be relevant.
Notice that reading level is sometimes indicated for selected articles. You also have the option of adding items to the Backback by putting a checkmark in the box to the left of each article. You can then return to the home page and access your Backpack by clicking on the link at the bottom of the page. TREE TOPIC SEARCHINGYou can also search by the topics shown on the home page:
Clicking on any of the topics will open a page that further subdivides each topic. PRINTING AND EMAILING ARTICLESWhen you click on an article, it will be displayed and you will see on the upper left two links that allow you to either print or email yourself the article you are viewing.
DICTIONARY From any page, at the top you will see a link for the Dictionary:
Clicking on it will open a page where you can type in a word and get a definition for it.
TEACHER TOOLBOXThe Teacher Toolbox provides information on how to evaluate sources a write a school paper. It includes information on choosing topics, writing topic sentences, how to cite sources, and how to organize and write a report, among other topics.
