Finding Articles with Computer Database, Expanded Academic ASAP, General Business File ASAP, General Reference Center Gold, InfoTrac OneFile, Informe (Revistas en Espanol), Junior Edition, Kid's Edition, and Student EditionThe Clearwater Public Library and the Pinellas Public Library Cooperative offer the above databases to registered library patrons as a way to search for articles and/or article citations from selected publications published from 1980 to present. ACCESSING THE DATABASESClick to access Computer Database, Expanded Academic ASAP, General Business File ASAP, General Reference Center Gold, InfoTrac OneFile, Informe (Revistas en Espanol), Junior Edition, Kid's Edition, and Student Edition
At the next screen, enter your 14-digit library card number (if accessing the database from outside the Library) and click PROCEED. Although these databases are in fact different, their search interface is in each case the same as what is presented here using InfoTrac Online as an example. The information you will get from your searches is simply being drawn from different sources. SEARCHING BY SUBJECTTo search for a topic in InfoTrac's pre-set list of topics, type your subject in the top blank and click Search.
At the next screen a list of subjects containing your search term will appear, each followed by a list of the types of publications in InfoTrac that have articles in which the term is a subject.
To view a list of items, simply click on the word View next to it. The results for Periodical references usually allow you to view the list of all periodical articles at once or to click on Narrow to show narrower subdivisions of the topic. VIEWING AN ARTICLE OR CITATIONThe full texts of many periodical articles are available on InfoTrac. Some periodicals indexed on InfoTrac are available only in the form of a citation or abstract. When viewing a list of article titles in InfoTrac, you will see a list of brief citations. Below each citation is the word View followed by text with graphics and full content retrieval choices, text and retrieval choices, extended citation and retrieval choices, or abstract and retrieval choices, depending on whether the full article is available or only a reference to it. To view the full text, when it is available, click on text and retrieval choices.
When viewing the article text, you may use the options in the blue column on the left side of the screen to return to the list of Citations or the Search screen. Selecting Collections allows you to return to the list of InfoTrac databases.
SEARCHING BY KEYWORDFrom the search screen, click on Keyword search.
Enter keywords in the search blank. Combine more than one term with AND. Leave the radio button set on search for words in title, citation, abstract to find only articles with your terms in those fields. Select the radio button next to in entire article content to search for your terms anywhere in the article. Once your search terms are entered, click Search.
LIMITING YOUR SEARCH TO FULLTEXT ARTICLESTo limit your search to full text articles only, simply select the check box next to to full text articles before clicking Search.
If you are not sure whether or not InfoTrac indexes your periodical, click Browse.
All of the periodicals beginning with numbers or the letter A will appear. To see periodicals beginning with another letter, click on it from the list of letters on the upper left-hand side of the screen.
Click in the check box next to the journal(s) you want to include in your search. Once you are finished selecting journals, click Submit selections. You can then continue your search, limiting your results to only the selected journal.
LIMITING YOUR SEARCH BY DATETo limit your search to articles published only on a certain date or within a certain date range, enter the date or range in the box next to by date. To search within a particular month, use the following format.
