As part of the City Council’s business growth program, Councilmember Cretekos and City staff visited the Clearwater campus of Ultimate Medical Academy.  These council visits represent an opportunity to recognize businesses in the community and engage in a dialogue with local leaders.

Ultimate Medical Academy was founded in 1994 and has trained thousands of students for careers in the allied health field.  The Clearwater campus offers programs for Basic X-Ray Technicians, Dental Assistants, Medical/Clinical Lab Assistants, Medical Insurance Billing and Coding Specialists, Nursing Assistants, Paramedical Skin Care Specialists, Patient Care Technicians, and Phlebotomy.

The City of Clearwater has partnered with UMA to provide scholarship funds for low-income residents in the surrounding Brownfields designated area.  Nine scholarships, representing over $20,000, have been granted as of March 2010 to students attending the nationally accredited institution.

As a sign of Ultimate Medical Academy’s success and commitment to growth in the City of Clearwater, they have recently announced plans to expand.  The new classrooms and offices are located on nearby Cleveland Street and will allow UMA to offer additional programs at this campus.
