Downtown Boat Slips Project

Diagram of boat slip layoutThe City of Clearwater would like to thank its voters for approving the boat slips referendum and making the project a reality. On March 13, 2007, voters took a step closer to deciding the future of downtown’s waterfront. Once boat slips are constructed, you can envision an active, dynamic waterfront that will become a destination for visitors cruising the Florida coastline and for locals out for a day of fun. This vital project is just the spark that will lighten Clearwater's downtown as a destination, thus revitalizing Cleveland Street and surrounding areas.

The project is in its earliest stages. Design plans should be ready in December of this year. The Florida Department of Environmental Protection, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Pinellas County Water and Navigation Control Authority and the city's Community Development Board also must sign off on the boat slips project. After the design plans are ready, the city will apply for permits, and in January 2009, construction crews will begin their work. The entire project should be complete by the end of 2009.

The city is collecting information from those who are interested in a space at the new boat slips facility. Boat slips will be awarded in a blind lottery, with first priority given to residents of the City of Clearwater. If you would like to add your name to the waiting list for a downtown boat slip, use our sign up form.

If you already have signed up, you will be notified closer to the project's completion to confirm your interest, register for the blind lottery, and provide a reservation deposit.
