CFAI logoClearwater Fire & Rescue was chartered as a fire department in 1897. The Department serves a fire protection district of 40.7 sq miles with a permanent population of approximately 137,310 residents, which swells during the winter months and tourist seasons. CFR received a Class 2 ISO grade in 2011. The Department received international accreditation status in 2003 and was re-accredited for another five years in 2009.

Staffing consists of a Fire Chief, Deputy Chief, Division Chiefs, Assistant Chiefs, Lieutenants, Fire Medics, Driver/Operators, Firefighters, Fire Inspectors, and Administrative Support. Line personnel work three shifts, 24 hours per shift. We respond to approximately 25,000 calls annually. We are a full-service Department providing non-emergency and emergency response services including Fire Prevention, Fire and Life Safety Education, Advanced Life Support Rescue, Fire Suppression, Heavy Rescue and Extrication, and Marine Rescue. Fire Inspectors oversee approximately 16,000 commercial buildings.

The community is served by eight (8) fire stations. The stations are strategically located to provide four-six minute response times throughout the City.

Fire & Rescue supports several community programs, such as but not limited to: Chaplainship, Special Needs Evacuation, Smoke Detectors, Fire Explorers, and Juvenile Fire Setters.
