Fire Inspections Bureau

The Prevention Bureau is staffed by two Fire Inspectors II's and four Fire Inspectors I's. These individuals perform fire inspections in 14,500 commercial properties within the Clearwater fire district. They ensure compliance with all fire and life safety codes, and Florida State statutes required under the Florida Fire Prevention Code. Properties that are inspected can range from day care centers, to assisted living facilities, schools, restaurants and other businesses. Additionally, some items that are inspected include fire extinguishers, fire protection sprinkler systems, fire suppression systems, fire alarm systems, and occupant loads. The overall objective of the Prevention Bureau is to inspect all commercial occupancies in the Clearwater Fire District within a 24 month period, and to reduce incidents of unintentional injuries and property loss from fire or other hazards, while simultaneously heightening the life safety awareness of our citizens.

Construction Services Bureau

The Construction Services Bureau is staffed by two Fire Inspectors II's and one Plans Reviewer. They perform all Fire Plans reviews, attend all preconstruction meetings, and conduct all fire final inspections from initial underground fire line testing to fire equipment and fire suppression acceptance testing, to certificate of building occupancy inspections. The overall objective of the Construction Services Bureau is to provide all builders and developers the information needed to have a quick and smooth transition through the plans review process and to achieve a 5-day turn-around time on all plans reviews.

The Fire Investigation Bureau is staffed by the Fire Marshal, Assistant Fire Marshal, four Fire Inspectors Level II positions and one Clearwater Police Detective with two additional backup detectives if needed. All members of the bureau are required to have current State of Florida Fire Investigator certification, rotate on call and backup investigators on a weekly basis. The members of this bureau are also assigned to other division bureaus, and have multiple and collateral duties. The overall objective of the Fire Investigation Bureau is to provide a cause and origin of all fires, whether accidental, incendiary, or an act of nature, preserve and collect evidence at fire scenes, document and furnish reports from all fire scenes, determine if the blaze was criminal or non-criminal in nature, and prosecute all individuals in criminal fire cases caused by arson.

SAFETY VILLAGE

Safety Village is an outdoor learning laboratory, a small-scale village located next to the fire station at 1450 Lakeview Road, Clearwater, Florida. Its primary purpose is to provide a place where young children, ages 4 through 11, are taught and practice life safety skills. An approved injury prevention curriculum which serves as the basis for instruction includes FIRE, ELECTRICAL, EMERGENCY ROOM AWARENESS, TRAFFIC, PEDESTRIAN, BURN SAFETY, 911 and DROWNING PREVENTION. Active participation on the part of the children enhances retention of all these safety skills.

Safety Village is free of charge to all groups in Pinellas County who are interested in providing a unique and valuable learning experience for young children. This includes pre-school, kindergartens, elementary schools, home schools, scout troops or any group that works with children ages 4-11.

The Village is operated by the City of Clearwater and administered by Clearwater Fire and Rescue.  We are currently not staffed to provide tours of this facility.  Please check back in another 6-12 months for updates.
