Code Compliance Process

If there is a suspected violation at a property, an Inspector may try to make contact with someone on the property, leave a card or an informational doorhanger, or send a courtesy notice   by mail.  If we receive no response from you, a Notice of Violation will be mailed to the property owner and/or occupant giving you a specific amount of time to comply. If you need additional time to correct a violation, please take the time to telephone the Inspector. Our goal is to achieve voluntary compliance through education, communication and cooperation.

If compliance is not gained, Inspectors have three options for enforcement: issue a Notice to Appear citation that will by heard before the County Court; schedule the violation for action before the City’s Municipal Code Enforcement Board; or if the violation is a nuisance take action to abate the nuisance after proper notification is given.
