Clearwater Library System Youth Events, Week of July 20

CLEARWATER, Fla. – The Clearwater Public Library System is offering a wide variety of events for children up to grade six during the week of July 13. All events are free and may require pre-registration where indicated below. Call (727) 562 4970 or visit myclearwater.com/cpl for more information.

Monday, July 21

Create Club: at the East Library, 2251 Drew St. 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. See what you can create with Legos/Duplos, Mr. Potato Head and Play-doh. All ages welcome.

Game on Mondays: at the North Greenwood Library, 905 N. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave., 2 to 3:30 p.m. Now that school’s out, enjoy video gaming, music, board games, card games, and friendly competition.

Science with Mr. McWiz: at the Main Library, 100 N. Osceola Ave., 2 to 4 p.m. Discover the fascinating world all around us with the hands-on fun science adventures of Mr. McWiz. Groups of more than 10, please pre-register at the Youth Services Desk.

Tuesday, July 21

Super Sum Buddies and Chess Club: at the Main Library, 100 N. Osceola Ave., 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. Don’t lose what you learned during the school year – keep your math skills honed while participating in fun games and activities. Chess boards provided.

Summer Story Lab: at the East Library, 2251 Drew St. 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Mix up some story time with fun science experiments and see what happens! This educational experience is suitable for preschool and elementary age children and their families. This week’s theme is acids and bases. Learn to make invisible ink in one experiment.

Spark Your Pinterest: at the North Greenwood Library, 905 N. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave., 2 to 3:30 p.m. Make something awesome with ideas you pick up from the social media site known for cool ideas.

Tricky Dogs: at the Countryside Library, 2741 S.R. 580, 2 to 2:45 p.m. Circus style comedy dog act starring six terriers, one poodle and their pet human, Rick Martin.

Wednesday, July 23

Magic with Ronald McDonald: at the North Greenwood Library, 905 N. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave., 2 to 3 p.m. The well-known clown serves up a magic show. Bring your camera and have your picture taken with him.

Reading Buddies: at the East Library, 2251 Drew St. 2 to 4 p.m. Practice reading with a teen buddy and/or participate in an educational game.

Kids Chess Club: at the Countryside Library, 2741 S.R. 580, 3:30 to 5 p.m. Kids of all ages and skill levels are invited to play. Teens will be on hand to help teach beginners.

Thursday, July 24

Showtime with the Dascaloja Puppeteers: at the Main Library, 100 N. Osceola Ave., 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Clearwater Library's puppeteers present folktales, modern stories, songs, and dances, sometimes as their puppet characters, sometimes as themselves. Fun for all ages five and up.

Blues in the Library: at the East Library, 2251 Drew St., 2 to 2:45 p.m. A local blues artist performs and explains the roots of one of America’s most enduring musical genres.

Summer Art Afternoon: at the Countryside Library, 2741 S.R. 580, 2 to 3 p.m. Miss Jill leads the craft session.

Science in the Summer: at the Main Library, 100 N. Osceola Ave., 2 to 4 p.m. Learn about the fascinating world and varieties of pigeons, including homing pigeons, from pigeon fancier, Bill Burnside.

Saturday, July 19

Science in the Summer Special - Robotics: at the Main Library, 100 N. Osceola Ave., 2 to 3 p.m. Limited seating is available for pre-registered participants in grades three to eight. Use your creativity in this fascinating introduction to robotics with LEGO Mindstorms NXT kit. Work in groups to build, program and control a robot.
