AUDUBON EXPLORERS CALLING ALL PINELLAS COUNTY STUDENTS IN GRADES 5 – 8 [ages 10 – 14]
CLEARWATER, Fla. -- Clearwater Audubon Society has 12 openings in its AUDUBON EXPLORER program, which will meet on six scheduled Saturdays (Feb. 16, March 9, March 23, April 13, April 27, and May 4) at 8:30 a.m. Audubon Explorers will visit different Pinellas County parks where they will gain knowledge about birding and our environment. The cost for this experience is $25 per participant. Please visit Clearwater Audubon Society’s website or Facebook page for more details about this unique Audubon Explorers program.
This exciting and fun program is specifically geared to those students and their parents who wish to learn more about the birds who share our space in Pinellas County, both as full-time residents and seasonal visitors. Birders of all levels of knowledge are welcome to join with us. THERE WILL NOT BE A WRITTEN FINAL EXAM --- that is a promise! HOWEVER, it has been noted that participation in our programs has resulted in a positive effect when applying for internships, counselor positions and even to colleges as well.
The leaders of the classes and excursions are all experienced birders and/or naturalists. Participants will gain plenty of opportunities to identify birds by sight, songs and their necessary choice of habitat. Most meetings will take place in the best birding areas, and our goal is to view and to identify as many different species as possible. Please bring binoculars. Your membership in CLEARWATER AUDUBON EXPLORERS also includes a name badge with lanyard, a Pinellas County bird checklist, a journal for keeping records, and a reference binder with useful and important information.
The locations for our monthly meetings will vary depending upon the season and month in order to maximize the quality of your time spent in the field observing and identifying birds, plants, and other wildlife. Since birds are most active in the early morning hours, our meeting times will reflect that fact.
Both participants and their parents are cordially invited to attend Clearwater Audubon’s monthly meetings at Moccasin Lake Nature Center on the first Monday of every month beginning at 7 p.m. Our featured speakers include naturalists and photographers. You are also welcome to join with us on our regularly scheduled field trips.
