Performance Artist Nan Colton Portrays Agatha Christie at Countryside Library

CLEARWATER, Fla. – The Countryside Library, 2741 S.R. 580 at Countryside Boulevard, will host St. Petersburg Museum’s Performing Artist-in-Residence, Nan Colton in her portrayal of Agatha Christie, the granddame of mystery, Thursday, Feb. 14 at 2:30 p.m.

In a setting circa 1954 for her “conversation,” Colton will capture the personality and extraordinary life of the woman who defined the mystery genre in the twentieth century, and whose work still resonates in such shows as “Murder She Wrote” and the long-running London play “Mousetrap.” The public is invited to become privy to some of the fascinating details of her early childhood, two marriages and the influence of two world wars that shaped her whodunits and made her name a household word.

Agatha Christie is one of a number of historic women Colton researches meticulously, and, based on her findings, creates characters that fascinate local and far-flung audiences alike. Her repertoire of famous women includes such notables as Catherine the Great, Georgia O’Keeffe and Harriet Beecher Stowe. For the past 26 years, Colton has performed and lectured professionally on stages throughout South Africa, Great Britain and the United States. Her recent work includes school residencies and guest presentations, including her 2012 Countryside Library appearance as Thomas Edison’s wife, Mina. Sponsors of her work in Florida include The Pinellas County Arts Council, The Mahaffey Theater Foundation, The Museum of Fine Arts, City of St. Petersburg, Florida Humanities Council, and the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall.

The presentation is free to the public. For more information about Nan Colton, please visit soloproduction.com. To find out more about the Clearwater Public Library system, call (727) 562-4970 or visit myclearwater.com/cpl.
