Public Meetings on New Countryside Library Scheduled

CLEARWATER, Fla. – As plans proceed with the replacement of the Clearwater Countryside Branch Library, the city of Clearwater will hold a series of public meetings to discuss the design and seek public input for the new, 22,500-foot building near the Countryside Recreation Center on Sabal Springs Drive.

The first meeting, an open forum format, is slated Thursday, June 20 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the current Countryside Library, 2741 S.R. 580 at Countryside Boulevard. Citizens may drop in anytime between those hours to view the plans and provide feedback.

“We would love to have as much input as possible from our residents, particularly the Countryside residents, as we plan their library,” stated Library Director Barbara Pickell. “We want this space to be the heart of the Countryside community so it really needs to reflect their needs and wishes.”

Harvard Jolly Architects will present the project scope, options for the site and conceptual drawings for the new facility. Potential design aesthetics will also be discussed. City officials will also be on hand to field citizen ideas and help address concerns.

The new Countryside library is expected to cost $5.46-million and construction, which is expected to begin May of 2014, should take approximately a year to complete.

Additional meetings will be Thursday, July 25 from 5 to 7 p.m. and Thursday, Sept. 19 from 3 to 6 p.m.
