13-0620 UPDATE

Second Bicyclist From Labor Day Accident Dies

Hilary Michalak, the Largo woman who has been hospitalized since a Labor Day bicycle accident on Memorial Causeway in Clearwater, has died.

Michalak, 27, died at 7:42 a.m. today at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg, where she had been since the Sept. 2 hit-and-run accident.

The other passenger on the tandem bike, Robert Lemon, 25, died the day of the accident at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa.

The vehicle that hit them on the causeway about 6:15 that morning left the scene. Christopher Patrick Weed, 29, was arrested the next day.

Clearwater Police charged him with one count of leaving the scene of an accident involving death and one count of leaving the scene of an accident involving injury.

That second charge is likely to be upgraded because of Michalak's death, but it will be up to the Pasco-Pinellas State Attorney's Office to do that.

Weed remains in the Pinellas County Jail.
