Library to Host Presentation on Pre-historic Floridian Community

CLEARWATER, Fla. – The Clearwater Public Library, 100 N. Osceola Ave., will host a Wednesday, June 12, 3 p.m. presentation led by Rachel Wentz, Ph.D. on her book detailing the unearthing of ancient human remains just outside present-day Titusville.

Dr. Wentz will discuss “Life and Death at Windover,” the discovery and subsequent archaeological dig that exhumed human skeletal and tissue remains along with a wealth of artifacts preserved at the bottom of a pond for some 8,000 years.

Dr. Wentz, who holds her doctorate in Anthropology and is a member of the Florida Public Archaeology Network, specializes in the analysis of human remains with emphases on ancient disease and population health. She has done skeletal work in St. Croix, England, and Ukraine and obtained experience in forensics at the C.A. Pound Human Identification Laboratory at the University of Florida. She has taught courses in physical anthropology, human osteology and forensic anthropology at Florida State University and serves on the Brevard County Historical Commission.

The presentation is free and open to the public. A book signing will follow.
