Clearwater is a Healthy Weight Community Champion

CLEARWATER, Fla. -- The City of Clearwater was officially recognized by the Florida Department of Health as a Healthy Weight Community Champion on April 16, 2014. This designation comes from the Florida State Surgeon General and recognizes county and municipal governments for the role they play in improving the health of their communities.

Clearwater is one of 37 jurisdictions from around the state that earned the designation by promoting healthy food, beverages, and physical activity environments for its residents. The city works hard to implement policies, practices, and programs that increase physical activity levels and nutrition among those in the Clearwater community.

“Our staff works hard every day to make Clearwater the great city it is,” says Regina Novak, Wellness Specialist for the City of Clearwater. “We do all we can to make Clearwater a healthy place to live, learn, work and play.”

The city offers residents and visitors five major recreation facilities, 128 parks, 27 playgrounds, 16 miles of trails, the McMullen Tennis Complex, the Clearwater Community Sailing Center, award winning athletic fields, Moccasin Lake Nature Park, the Aging Well Center, golf courses, and miles of white sandy beaches.

Play Passes and recreation cards are available to residents and non-residents. They offer reduced-rate programs and activities, early camps registration, and access to fitness centers, open gym, pool use, and park visits. The city also administers a wellness program to its employees to encourage healthy behaviors and activities to stay fit and healthy.
