Nan Colton to Portray Harriet Beecher Stowe at Countryside Library

CLEARWATER, Fla. – The Countryside Library, 2741 S.R. 580 at Countryside Boulevard, will host St. Petersburg Museum of Fine Arts performance artist-in-residence, Nan Colton, in a 2:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 6 presentation.

Colton will portray Harriet Beecher Stowe, author of Uncle Tom’s Cabin. While Stowe is best known for that novel, she also penned a series of short stories inspired by her experiences living the South Jacksonville neighborhood of Mandarin, Florida, during the post Civil War era. The presentation, “Under Palmetto Leaves,” will cover that period in Stowe’s life.

Colton is well-known for her characterizations of famous women throughout history and invites the public to share her celebrity portraits online at soloproduction.com. The presentation is free and open to the public.
