Water Main Break on Clearwater Beach

Clearwater, Fla. -- A water main break has occurred on Clearwater Beach on Papaya Street between Poinsettia Avenue and East Shore Drive. Crews from the City of Clearwater’s Public Utilities department are on-site, and an emergency repair is being made to restore the main. The cause of the break is not certain at this time but may be related to construction of the Mandalay Stormwater Outfall project.

City utility crews have begun the repair of the 12" cast iron water main, and the repair will be completed sometime today. This water main services some hotels and restaurants on north Clearwater Beach.

A Precautionary Boil Water Notice has been issued and includes 55 Papaya Street and 11 addresses along East Shore Drive (441, 430, 428, 423, 426, 425, 427, 419, 408, 403, and 401). Water samples have been taken to the lab, and the city expects to have results by Aug. 3. A Rescission notice will be issued when the water samples are reported clear.

Traffic is not impacted due to the break but is related to ongoing construction. Please call (727) 562-4960, ext. 7249 with questions.
