Dolphin Loaner Program Partners with Mildred Helms Elementary

CLEARWATER, FL – Clearwater Gas System’s newly developed Dolphin Loaner Program is partnering with Mildred Helms Elementary to become the program’s first participant. The dolphin loaner program was recently formed when Clearwater Gas System sponsored a six-foot fiberglass dolphin this summer, known as Flo, during Clearwater’s Dolphins Public Art Exhibition.

During the next few years, Flo will reside at Mildred Helms Elementary, the location where a portion of the movie, Dolphin Tale, was filmed. The film is based upon the true-life saga of Winter, the bottlenose dolphin with a prosthetic tail who’s also the star attraction at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium. The goal of Clearwater Gas System’s Dolphin Loaner Program is to partner with local schools to heighten the awareness of diversity and inclusion of individuals from all walks of life. The students and faculty are welcoming Flo, with open arms. “We have created a very special place for her to reside at the main entrance of our school where she will watch over everyone who comes to Mildred Helms Elementary. It is our honor to be a partner in the Dolphin Loaner Program,” stated Sandra Cowley, Principal of Mildred Helms Elementary.

The partnership is a win-win for both Clearwater Gas System and Mildred Helms Elementary, especially since the school is, “Home of the Dolphins," as proclaimed on the school’s website. “We are excited to partner with Mildred Helms in our ongoing community education efforts to promote and celebrate diversity,” said Chuck Warrington, Clearwater Gas System’s Managing Director. Flo, the dolphin, will officially start her first day of school at Mildred Helms Elementary on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012 (great photo opportunity at 10 a.m.).

Clearwater Gas System, a municipally-owned gas utility, has provided safe, clean, economical and reliable gas energy to residents and businesses in our growing service area since 1923. Clearwater Gas System is the 4th largest municipal gas system in Florida and ranks 34th out of nearly 1,000 public gas systems in the United States.
