Ribbon Cutting for Gateway Farmers Market Grand Opening Slated

CLEARWATER, Fla. – The grand opening of the Clearwater Gateway Farmers Market will be Saturday, Jan. 12 on the 1200 block of Cleveland St. near Missouri Ave. The market will open at 9 a.m. and Clearwater Mayor George N. Cretekos will participate in a ribbon cutting ceremony to launch the new market at 10:45 a.m.

The market will join the growing number of fresh food outlets in the area, open to the public from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday. It will feature cultural entertainment, local food, produce, artisan goods and art that is representative of Pinellas County’s culturally diverse population.

“Our goal for the farmers market is to promote the East Gateway neighborhood just east of downtown as a destination,” said Ekaterini Gerakios, Community Development Manager for the city. “This is a new opportunity to engage the residents while giving visibility to local businesses. We are looking to create a sense of place for regularly scheduled events and activities in this unique community.”

Participating vendors include Antonio T Fresh Produce, Brady’s Backyard BBQ, El Paisa Restaurant & Bakery, Florida Citrus Country, Nedd Health Center, Swanson Soapworks, The Great Spiedini, and The Path Bicycle & Ride Shop. This Saturday, Carlos Rodriguez will be the featured musician and Magic Jay will bring his magic to the children.

The weekly market is a partnership with Communities Putting Prevention to Work (CPPW), the InterCultural Advocacy Institute, the Clearwater Community Redevelopment Agency, Pinellas County Health & Human Services and the City of Clearwater. Additional sponsors include the Pinellas Community Foundation, Law Office of Francisco D. Coll, Esq., Fifth Third Bank, and Greektown Grille.

Event parking is free on the vacant lot on Cleveland Street and N. Lincoln Ave. and at the parking lot of Fifth Third Bank (1150 Cleveland Street). More information about the event is available at www.myclearwatermarket.com.
