Clearwater East Library Hosts Program Celebrating State’s 500th Anniversary

CLEARWATER, Fla. – The Clearwater East Branch Library, 2251 Drew St., will host a Saturday, May 11, 2 p.m. program celebrating Florida’s 500th anniversary.

Dr. J. Michael Francis will lead the program, Viva Florida 500: Before Jamestown, exploring the roles of Europeans, Africans and Indians in the territory known as La Florida, 1513 to 1607.

Dr. Francis holds the Hough Family Endowed Chair in Florida Studies at the University of South Florida, St. Petersburg, where he is an expert in the Spanish Colonial Period of Florida’s history.
