Libraries Offer Something for Everyone in January

CLEARWATER, Fla. – The Clearwater Public Library System is offering events and activities to help children and adults start the New Year. January highlights include:

MAIN LIBRARY, 100 N. Osceola Ave.:

Entrepreneurship Tech Summit: Blogging for Business: Monday, Jan. 14, 4 p.m. The Main Library Computer Lab, Third Floor Reference department. Learn how to start and keep your business buzz with social media. Participants must have an existing business and be computer literate. This class is part of the Entrepreneurship Tech Summit series.

Help! I Got an E-Reader for the Holidays – Now What?: Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Computer technicians will be on the third floor at the library all day to help users download books or help with e-readers. No registration required.

Winter Art Showcase (all branches): Students in grades K through 12 are invited to submit a piece of original two-dimensional art to any Clearwater Library Branch by Jan. 25. All art will be showcased at the Clearwater Main Library Gallery from Feb. 1 to 22 and all entrants will receive prizes for entering. Entry forms are available at the circulation desks of all branches and online at

Astronomy for Everyone: Size and Scale of the Universe: Tuesday, Jan. 22, 6 p.m. Dr. Kevin Manning, astrophysicist and NASA consultant, will present a program on space with amazing videos and hands-on activities. Following the formal presentation, attendees are invited up to the library rooftop to view celestial objects in the night sky through a telescope.


Modeling Workshop: Saturday, Jan. 12, noon. Ro Martinez will discuss breaking into the modeling business and how to avoid the pitfalls of the business.

Three One-Act Plays: Thursday, Jan. 17, 5:30 p.m. The One-Act Players Association invites you to enjoy three original one-act plays including The Regatta by Ellen Henderson; The Dog Park, by Andrea Cate; and How Not to Urn a Living, by Liz Robbins.

Journaling with Linda Burhans: Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2 p.m. Join Linda Burhans for this monthly series exploring creative ways to keep a personal journal.

COUNTRYSIDE BRANCH LIBRARY, 2741 S.R. 580 at Countryside Boulevard:

Your Health Is Your Wealth: Tuesday. Jan. 22, 2 p.m. Presented by Pamela Seefeld, R.Ph., Clinical Alternative Pharmacist, discusses ways to improve health with natural pharmaceuticals.

Shingles: Causes and Treatment: Wednesday, Jan. 23, noon. Learn about the treatment and prevention of shingles, including a vaccine that protects adults who may be at risk from Dr. Cynthia Miller.

Tim Dorsey Book Signing: Sunday, Jan. 27, 2 p.m. Author Tim Dorsey will talk about his new book, Riptide Ultraglide. Copies of the book and merchandise from the novel series will be available.

Research Skills - Ya Need 'Em: Saturday, Jan. 12, 2 p.m. Information literacy is a skill all students need in today's tech world. Teens are invited to learn how to evaluate sources and Internet sites and access primary information on the Internet.

Do It Yourself Crafts: Wednesday, Jan. 30, 4:30 p.m. Children are invited to make a crafty masterpiece in a fun atmosphere.


Rita Fabula Cooking Class – Everyone Kneads Bread: Tuesday, Jan. 15, 1:30 p.m. Chef Rita shows how to make baguettes, cinnamon rolls, savory and sweet breads. Call 562-4970 to register.

Writer’s Support Group: Wednesdays, Jan. 2 and 16, 1 p.m. A workshop for writers and would be writers led by journalist Ann Garris.

Clearwater Beach Shell Crafters Club: Thursdays, Jan. 10 and 24, 1 p.m. The club, sponsored in part by Beach Friends of the Library, gets together to create shell crafts such as photo frames, wreaths, wall plaques, etc. using shells found on the beach. To join, please call 447-5882.
